Lil Jojo (Chicago Rap Artist)

Lil Jojo was born ‘Joseph Coleman’ on April 6, 1994. He is a former rap artist from Chicago, Illinois. He was killed by a drive-by shooting on September 4th, 2012.

Lil Jojo’s Music Career

Lil Jojo was an up and coming artist from the south side of Chicago, he had numerous youtube song videos which were very popular. Lil Jojo was part of the criminal gang ‘Gangster Disciples’, and was associated with '069 Bricksquad' which is a faction of the Gangster Disciples. Lil Jojo had many diss tracks aimed at the ‘Black Disciples’ gang and more specifically toward the BDs set known as Lamron which includes fellow rapper Chief Keef whom he was beefing with.

Lil Jojo’s Death

Lil Jojo was gunned down on September 4th, 2012 while riding a bike belonging to one of his friends. Witnesses claim a man in a Ford Taurus fired multiples shots at Lil Jojo , he soon fell and died on the scene. Police claim they had recovered a weapon on Lil Jojo, but he never had the opportunity to fire back since he was shot from the back. Moments before the shooting took place, Lil Jojo added his location to his twitter account, which led investigators to believe this was a targeted hit. No one has been charged in connection to the shooting, but speculations are running wild. Many believe Lil Jojo was killed due to his ongoing beef with Chief Keef, they most likely scenario is that a member of the ‘Black Disciples’ killed him due to the numerous diss against them in songs such as ‘BDK(3Hunnak)’ and ‘I got dat sack’. In many of his songs Lil Jojo can be heard saying the ‘300k’ ‘3hunnak’ and ‘BDK’; 300, 3hunna, and BD are various names the Black Disciples go by, adding K after a gang’s name means they are your enemy and you will kill them, thus BDK really stands for ‘Black Disciples Killer’. Lil Durk and Lil Reese were also seen as suspect due to their ongoing beef with Lil Jojo, both are also close associates of Chief Keef and Black Disciples members.

Lil Jojo’s Legacy

Lil Jojo’s death helped shine a light into the violence plaguing Chicago. After his death, Chief Keef tweeted ‘Its Sad Cuz Dat Nigga jojo Wanted to Be Jus Like Us #LMAO’. Chief Keef later added another tweet claiming his Twitter account was hacked “my twitter has been hacked I think I'm making a new one dumb hating ass people #DontWannaSeeAYougNiggaShine”. One of Jojo’s best friend and fellow rapper was gunned down on December 25, 2012 for wearing a Lil Jojo sweatshirt. A member of the Black Disciples gang was killed on September 17, 2012 in what many believe was retaliation for Jojo’s death. A mixtape titled 'Jojo World' was released after his death which included many of his most popular songs such as 'BDK' and 'I Got Dat Sack'. As a tribute to Lil JoJo, friends and fellow gang members started referring to their gang as 'JoJo World'.
