Stacking (Gang Signs)

Stacking refers to the act of displaying gang hand signs, primarily to indicate the gang or set an individual is affiliated with and to identify adversaries. For those not involved in gang culture, it is highly risky to flash random gang signs, especially in gang-dominated regions, as it may provoke confrontation with rival members.

Understanding Gang Culture

Most gangs operating within the United States engage in the practice of stacking. This includes well-known groups like the Crips and the Bloods. However, there are notable exceptions. For instance, the Black Disciples, one of the most prominent gangs in Chicago, Illinois, do not participate in stacking. This practice is highlighted in the lyrics of the song 'Beef' by Lil Reese, a member of the Black Disciples, where he states, "I never stack I'm 2-4-14."
