12 (Police Slang)

12 is a slang term used to refer to the police or any other law enforcement agencies. The 12 slang derives from Adam-12, a TV series which ran from 1968 to 1975.. The TV show Adam-12 is a television police drama that followed two police officers of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Pete Malloy and Jim Reed, as they rode the streets of Los Angeles in their patrol unit, 1-Adam-12.

It's very common for criminals to yell "12" if any cops are coming to warn their fellow criminals.

This slang is highly popular in hip hop lyrics.
