Rapping was not his first choice for a career, at first he wanted to become a baseball play, but in 2008 he decided to become a rapper. He released a song titled “Stay Down” in 2008 which became a hit in his hometown Atlanta. Soon after releasing that song, his rap career would be halted due to him being locked up for one year. He was offered a deal in 2011 by L.O.R. (Loyalties Over Royalties)’s owner Tezzy. Around that same time, Rich Homie Quan formed a group with one of his associates ‘Mafio’ and called it ‘No Sleep Gang’. Quan’s group was set to release their first mixtape on January 1, 2012, but it was rescheduled due to Tezzy dying in December 2011. Following his departure from L.O.R, he signed a record deal with T.I.G.
Quan is often compared to fellow rapper ‘Future’ because their voices sound the same. In past interviews he claims that he doesn’t sound much like ‘Future’ because his voice is original, unlike Future whom has to use auto tunes to sound like him. Though never proven, there have been rumors that Future stole Quan’s rapping style while he was in prison.
Rich Homie Quan has worked with numerous other artist, he collaborated with Guci Mane on some songs and claim Guci Mane is one of the hardest working guy in the music industry, and he was blessed to have the opportunity to work with him. He has also worked with the following rap artists, ‘YG’, ‘Trinidad James’, ‘Young Jeezy’, ‘Tyga’, as well as numerous others. One rapper that he would like to collaborate with is Drake because he believes he’s one of the most lyrical rap artists out right.
Rich Homie Quan has released numerous mixtapes including the followings: ‘I Go In On Every Song (2012)’, ‘Still Goin In (2012)’, ‘Still Goin In (Reloaded) (2012)’. Some of his most popular songs are “Type of Way”, “Can’t Judge Her”, “Investments”, and “About that Life”.
