Santana Blocc Compton Crips (SBCC) started in 1976 as the 'Santana Boys' with Kim 'Bullet' Tate being one of its founders. The gang started spreading around when Ken "Yogi" Tate and Rob Franklin started creating other sets of the gang in the Oaks Park area of Compton, California in 1978; the newly created sets were known as Santana Blocc Crips. In 1978 Kim 'Bullet' Tate was murdered by a member of the Lueders Park Piru. Following the death of Bullet, while under the control of Kenneth “Turtle” Johnson, the Santana Blocc Compton Crips became one of the most active Crip gangs in the area and waged war with numerous Blood gangs which included Elm Street Pirus, Fruit Town Pirus, Cross Atlantic Piru, and the Mob Piru.

SBCC is considered as one of the oldest Crip gangs around. Their enemies include Duccy Hood Compton Crips, Spook Town Compton Crips, Atlantic Drive Compton Crips along with the South Side Compton Crips, Acacia Blocc Compton Crips, Original Front Hood Compton Crips, Original Swamps Compton Crips, Ward Lane Compton Crips, Carver Park Compton Crips, Nutty Blocc Compton Crips,Farm Dog Compton Crips, Mona Park Compton Crips, Park Village Compton Crips, the Compton Varrio Tortilla Flats and the Compton Varrio Largo 36.
