Break bread means to share your items with another person. The definition of the term 'break bread' can be traced back to the time of Jesus. In Luke 22:19, it reads "And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”". This took place during Jesus' last supper. The term wasn't invented in the last supper, it was common for individuals at that time to use the term in friendly meetings, which would involve a loaf of bread being broken into pieces.

The definition of the term break bread today is for the most part unchanged, however the term has grown to include items beyond bread, therefore a more accurate description of the slang 'break bread' would be "The act of sharing any assets or belonging with another individual(s)".

This term is often used in rap songs by rappers, in LA Capone's 'Play for Keeps" song, he say "And if he can’t break bread he fake I had one more buck in my plate It was me and bro, we was in the store And both of us got 50 cents cake" This is perfect example of the term 'break bread', breaking bread with another individual also tend to mean you care on some level about them, which explains why you're willing to give them a piece of your bread.
